Volunteers battle the elements to support emergency services

http://i.thisis.co.uk/275561/article...49/1882787.jpg FRIENDS IN NEED: Andrew Burns, left, and Peter Jarrett, of the Yorkshire 4x4 Response Network.

A TEAM of dedicated volunteers are battling the elements to support medical and emergency services.
The Arctic weather has led to one of the busiest times for the Yorkshire 4x4 Response Network, which has been helping emergency services and been a lifeline for patients needing urgent hospital treatment.
Simon Bentley, a local controller and national chairman, said: "We have been particularly busy moving key workers around.
"It involves getting medical staff and nurses to hospitals and home-based patients when they can't use their own vehicles."

Businessman Peter Jarrett, 34, owner of Psquared in Hessle, has been a member of the voluntary group since it started three years ago.
He and his colleague, technical manager Andrew Burns, 34, have been helping the emergency services.
Mr Burns, of Hull, got his first call at 3am yesterday to take an ambulance driver from his home in Goole to an ambulance depot in Scunthorpe.
The pair spent the day transporting stranded patients to and from Castle Hill hospital.
One woman was due at Castle Hill for daily radiotherapy treatment and was unable to get her car out of Newbald village until Mr Jarrett came to her aid.
She said: "He was a total lifesaver. I don't what I'd have done without him."
