Advice on Severe Weather
Risk of Snow Tonight and for a time on Saturday 18 February

During the course of Friday night it will turn wet across all of Yorkshire & Humberside. Within about 20 or 30 miles of the coast precipitation will fall as rain or, at worst, sleet but on ground above about 700 or 800ft snow is more likely.

The awkward bit is the rest of the region away from the coast and below 700ft. Here it's likely to be a wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow.

There is not likely to be too much change on Saturday morning but during the afternoon everything should turn to rain and become much lighter before dying out during the evening. However, it could then turn cold enough during Saturday night for ice to become an additional risk.

So amounts of snow will range from very little along the coast, locally 1-3cms of slush further inland but as much as 5-10cms over the hills. The EA are also aware of developments and are keeping a close eye on how this will impact on rivers and watercourses.

Sunday should then stay mostly dry but there could be a repeat of this wintry mix on Monday but I will update on this nearer the time.

regards
martin
