Advice on severe weather from the PWS Advisor

The MET office would like to bring your attention to the risk of some heavy rain that's likely to affect parts of Y&H later tonight and at first on Thursday morning.

A yellow warning has been issued for parts of the region and can be found on the Met Office web-site at http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/..._warnings.html

The rain will arrive from the south after midnight becoming very heavy in places before clearing away during the first part of Thursday morning. The exact location of the really heavy rain is causing the MET office a few problems but latest thoughts are that parts of South Yorkshire, The Humber and North Yorkshire (apart from the far west) are most at risk. 20-40mm of rainfall could fall in a fairly short space of time.

Once the rain clears away, Thursday afternoon should be much better though there is still the risk of a few, very localised, heavy showers.

The MET office has spoken to the EA and the main concerns will be surface water flooding issues but they will monitor the situation very closely, especially regarding fast responding water-courses.

The situation is very dynamic and if there is any change to the forecast when latest guidance becomes available, especially to areas where the heaviest rain may occur, then the MET office will send an update.
