Advice on severe weather from the PWS advisor

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain valid for today for a good part of Y&H. The risk is currently assessed as low likelihood of medium impacts (Yellow - BE AWARE) due to uncertainty surrounding the actual totals. The warning can be found at http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/..._warnings.html

As for the forecast rain is now expected for the rest of the day. Some heavy bursts are expected, especially in areas depicted by the yellow warning although there is still some debate about how far this area of rain will push westwards during the afternoon. The rain should ease in south Yorks and the Humber by early evening and then clear from all parts by the early hours of Saturday. Most parts will catch 10-20mm of rainfall but areas in the warning zone could see, very locally, 30-40mm. The MET Office has spoken to the E.A. and they have no major concern with watercourses but obviously they will keep a close eye on things and will continue to monitor the situation very closely. The main issue will, of course, be surface water.

And some good news!

From a resilience perspective, the rest of the weekend looks, hopefully, reasonably quiet. Showers are expected tomorrow, although at this stage no issues are forecast to occur associated with these. Sunday, Monday and into Tuesday looks mainly dry with some sunny spells. There is a low risk of an odd shower at times during Sunday and Monday but these will be few and far between so most people will not see any showers at all. Again, no issues are expected.
