4X4 Response National Weekend 9/10/11 July 2010

Yorkshire & Lincolnshire 4x4 Response are proud to announce the 4x4 Response National Weekend for 2010.

This inaugural event is being held at Frickley 4x4 Offroad Centre weekend of the 10th & 11th July. Situated between the M1, A1 and M18 in South Yorkshire the site is in easy reach of the motorway network and we'll be signing the route in and providing a radio "talk in" service on both CB and HAM for thse that want it

More details will be announced in due course but get the date in your diary now.

We're putting on a fun but constructive weekend for all, as well as the offroad site there will be stuff for the kids and seminars arranged so that opposite numbers from different groups can discuss their particular field. We also hope to get a couple of local equipment suppliers along to display their wares but also talk about how to get the best from the equipment (things like lights and CB/HAM radio etc).

The site is suitable for tents, caravans and motorhomes, there is a limited number of electric hook ups so these will have to be shared where possible, we'll try to allocate them on a group basis, depending how many come. I will look into other accommodation nearby incase some people don't wish to camp, if we can arrange for everyone who does take this option up to stay in a similar area we'll try to put on a pickup/drop off service for the evenings so everyone (bar the driver) can join in the evenings fun.

In following years the event will move around the country being hosted by different groups each year. With this relatively central location we hope to attract visitors from all teams, to ease traveling we have arranged that we can stay over till Monday and travel back at our leisure instead of being torn between leaving early or arriving back home late etc.

Richard Wilcox and I did a sight visit this evening and all looks good.

The campsite will be open from early afternoon if anyone specifically wants access earlier to drop off caravans etc please contact me to arrange access.

As previously stated electric hook ups are available but numbers are limited so please book in advance if you require one. There are 9 or 10 outlets across 4 points so we will need people to park and camp considerately.

Open fires are NOT allowed. Contained fires raised up from the ground are ok, but have a fire extinguisher to hand - everything is tinder dry at the moment.

Dogs are allowed but must be kept under strict control, there are horses stabled within the site and I'm sure no one wants the bill for an injured flighty show jumper.

Access to "The Barn" is around the top side of the buildings (if in doubt ask) not via the courtyard or through other buildings. Parents are asked to ensure their children remain away from the stables within the courtyard.

There are 2 toilets and 2 hot showers in "The Barn" for our use.

The upstairs of "The Barn" is available for our use and is a perfect place to socialise in the evening (so no need for multitudes of anti social little fire baskets etc), plenty of tables and chairs, and a fridge to keep the beers cold. There is also a freezer if anyone is bringing anything they may wish to keep frozen, or just to flash cool other stuff.

If the weather is poor the AGM will be in "The Barn" if it is good we may well have it outside as last year - so bring a camping chair or similar.

Rubbish - there are no facilities for rubbish disposal on site so please bring a bin liner and take you waste home - I will try to bring suitable recyling containers for use in "The Barn".

Jet wash facilities will be available for those that wish at the end of each day - Frickley mud has a reputation for setting like stone - though of course there will be less than usual but we are assured there is still plenty.

I will post detailed directions shortly but please take note that we are not using the usual Pay and Play entrance and that this entrance will not be open, you need to approach via the village of Clayton, turn up Hall Brigg the campsite is at Wink House, which is Wink Lodge according to the sign when you get there.

To repeat - do not go to the normal pay and play entrance for Frickley - THIS WILL BE LOCKED.

Whether you are approaching from the North or South on the A1 or the M1 you should exit at Junction 36.

From Junction 37 A1 - this route will be signed from the A1 slip roads onwards.

Depart west on the A635 towards Hickleton - continue 2.9miles

Turn right onto the B6411/Lidgett Lane into Thurnscoe - continue 2.1miles

Turn right into Clayton Lane - continue 1.5miles

Turn left into Hall Brig, this become Common Lane - continue 0.25miles

At the five way junction turn right on to Top Lane - gravel road from here - continue 0.23miles

Turn 1st left toward Wink Lodge - the campsite entrance is 50m on your right

From Junction 36 M1 - this route will be signed from where you leave the B6273

Depart East on the A6195 (Dearne Valley Road) - continue following A6195 over a number of roundabouts (penultimate of which is crossing the A635) for 6.75miles

At the roundabout turn right onto the B6273 towards Great Houghton - continue 0.3miles

Turn right in Middlecliffe Lane - Continue 0.2miles

Straight on at crossroads (STOP) into Billingley Lane - continue 0.6miles

Turn right onto the B6411/Houghton Road towards Thurnscoe - continue 0.6miles

Turn left into Clayton Lane - continue 1.5miles

Turn left into Hall Brig, this become Common Lane - continue 0.25miles

At the five way junction turn right on to Top Lane - gravel road from here - continue 0.23miles

Turn 1st left toward Wink Lodge - the campsite entrance is 50m on your right

For the "local" people.

For those living in the Wakefield area who will be travelling cross country the route will be signed from the B6273 into Clayton where you should pick up the above instructions.

If using a satnav the postcode to use, from Frickley's site is DN5 7BU - this will get you to the campsite but only once you have arrived in the village of Clayton - if you use it from further afield it will take you to the Frickley Hall however you will encounter a locked gate along the way.

All distances are approximate and will depend on your speedo calibration.
